Brazil

South America

Brazil produces around a third of the world’s coffee. Coffee farms in Brazil range from the massive 500+ hectare estates to the small five hectare family farm. Compared to the rest of Latin America, Brazil’s coffee production takes a more industrialized approach. Some large and flat farms use mechanized pickers to shake coffee cherries loose from the trees.

Strict control in post-harvest processing has given Brazil a reputation for good quality bulk coffees — washed, pulped naturals, and naturals. However, Brazil has been surprising many in the coffee world in the last few years with forays into different varieties and processing methods.

La Minita has long term relationships with a number of farms and exporters in Brazil. A few of our offerings are blends that we worked on for years, fine-tuning the flavor profile. We developed one special blend specifically for pulling as espresso or as a base in espresso blends. The coffee, called B56 (it took 56 blend iterations to make one we loved), combines natural and pulped naturals from farms in the Cerrado region.

The coffee harvest is from May to September. Every year La Minita sources washed coffees, pulped naturals, and naturals as well as a few special microlots from our Brazilian partners.
